Technical Lead

The Technical Lead is responsible for application design, implementation and deployment on small technical engagements or sub-teams of large projects. The Technical Lead may be responsible for the day-to-day management of a small team. In this role the Technical Lead is expected to routinely demonstrate their technical leadership while gaining the respect of their teammates. For internal NVISIA purposes this position is assigned an NVISIA Career Advisor. While on a project this position reports to the Project Manager. The key characteristics of an NVISIA Technical Lead include:

  • Able to interface with and communicate with client executives and managers in a professional manner.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Captures basic functional requirements with Use Cases
  • Captures basic constraining requirements in a supplementary specification
  • Follows Use Cases as functional specification for development
  • Identifies and fill gaps in Use Case specification
  • Works with clients and project team members to develop and document requirements
  • Assists in establishing project design standards
  • Transforms requirements into high-level software designs
  • Guides technical direction of the project
  • Implements systems components or systems using relevant technologies and methodologies
  • Develops necessary technical documentation/technical writing
  • Oversees technical architecture and development for projects at a tactical and strategic level
  • Act as primary technical liaison with application development and the project teams
  • Stays abreast of new technologies with the goal of utilizing new technology to enhance current capabilities or deliver new functionality
  • Outlines tasks associated with small technical initiatives
  • Provides day-to-day leadership to the assigned Software Engineers and Software Developers
  • Mentors client and NVISIA personnel.
  • Works effectively with client personnel and the project team to resolve implementation issues
  • Maintains a risk list and works with the Project Manager to develop a risk management plan
  • Keeps the Project Manager informed of progress, set-backs and any new issues that may affect the ability of NVISIA to meet client expectations
  • Gives advance notice to the Project Manager when requiring specific resources: hardware, software, training, supplies, etc.
  • Obtains authorization from the Project Manager before working overtime hours
  • Communicates client feedback and/or comments to the Project Manager
  • Reinforces team approach throughout development efforts
  • Supports and solicits input from team members at all levels within the organization
  • Assists in the interview and new employee integration processes when asked and completes the associated paperwork in a timely fashion
  • Participates in all programs and supports all policies relating to performance evaluations, career development planning, and time and expense management.

Qualifications

  • BA or BS, preferably in computer science, engineering, or science/technology-based discipline
  • 3-6 years of relevant technical or application architecture experience
  • Experience in matching the appropriate technologies to business needs
  • Track record for providing technology innovation that offers value for clients
  • Demonstrated technical leadership on a team project
  • Demonstrated strong Java programming skills in a team environment
  • Applied object oriented (design) principles in a team environment
  • Worked with UML on a team project
  • Demonstrated the ability and strong desire to grasp new technologies
  • Solid understanding of the software development life cycle and software methodologies including Object Oriented design methodologies
  • Effectively communicates and interfaces with client and NVISIA personnel
  • Uses effective and professional communication skills both verbal and written
  • Effectively drives the work that needs to be completed with little direction
  • Great attitude and commitment to get the job done
  • Effective time management skills
  • Strong problem solving skills
